The Department researches the synthesis, evaluation, and utilization of new organic functional materials. Major areas of study include the synthesis of organic functional membranes which exhibit selectivity toward gases, ions, and solutes in their permeation, separation, adsorption and response, and evaluation of their characteristics. Also being researched are the construction of assembled molecules of higher ordered structures, control and utilization of high-dimensional structures, synthesis of biological substances, and development of materials with biomimetic functions, including functional materials with conductive and magnetic properties, utilizing modified technologies.
