Zeolite Membrane

Zeolite, a typical microporous crystalline material, is an attractive material because of its solid acidity, ion exchange capability, adsorption/ release capability, and molecular level pores.

The Institute has succeeded in synthesizing a pure zeolite film by hydrothermal synthesis in a non-stirred diluted solution, and a silicalite membrane (the most hydrophobic zeolite with structures made completely of SiO2) With improved mechanical strength for possible application as a separation membrane. The silicalite membrane's pervaporation performance shows a very high selective permeability toward alcohol.

Other studies are analyzing the zeolite crystal growth process and how to produce a molecular sieve-type gas separating membrane.
