Separation Membranes and Systems


Separation and reaction are the two major technologies essential to chemical processes. Application of membranes with high-permselectivity is one way to thoroughly improve the energy efficiency related to them. Research involves the screening and synthesizing of organic and inorganic membrane materials, membrane preparation using the phase-inversion technique, and Chemical vapor deposition and polymerization. AIso, efficient membrane processes using the novel membranes thus developed, such as recovery of useful substances, removal of environmentally harmful ones, combination of reaction and separation and so on, are investigated while evaluating their feasibility.
