Electron-Transfer Reaction Theory

In order to resolve energy problems, efforts have been made in recent years to construct artificial photo-synthetic systems that mimic natural photosynthesis. The control of electron transfer is a key element for the realization of artificial photo-synthetic systems and also molecular devices that utilize electron transfer. The Institute conducts theoretical research on the control of electron transfer, aiming at the realization of artificial photosynthetic systems and molecular devices. The research aims at clarifying how the electron-transfer rate depends on physical factors such as donor-accepter distance, free energy change, solvent and temperature, and also at determining theoretically, on the basis of this information, the conditions for efficiently suppressing back electron transfer which is an obstacle to the development of artificial photo-synthetic systems.
