Determination of the Absolute Configuration of (-) -2,2,2-(Trifluoro-1-hydroxyethyl)ferrocene

M. Goto, Y. Yamazaki, and M. Uebayashi
[Bull. Chem. Soc. Jpn., Vol.66, p.666, 1993]

The absolute configuration of the title compound produced by the microbial reduction was determined through the anomalous dispersion effect of the iron atoms. The crystals are monoclinic, space group P2_{1}, with a=10.046(2), b=8.844(1), c=12.802(2) Å,β=95.61(1)° V=1132(1) Å^{3}, Z=4, D_{c}=1.666 gcm^{-3}. There are two independent molecules in the asymmetric unit. Both of them have the same chirality of R configuration, though their molecular conformations are different.
