Interatomic Distances in Layered Silicates and Their Intercalation Compounds as Studied by Cross Polarization NMR

[Chemical Physics Letters, Vol.226, pp.495-500, 1994]

Contact time dependences of signal intensities in 29Si and 13CCP/MAS NMR have been measured for kaolinite and kaolinite-dimethysulphoxide (DMSO) and kaolinite-DMSO-d6 intercalation compounds, as shown in Fig.1. Cross relaxation times between 1H and 29Si and between 1H and 13C have been estimated experimentally, which reflect the internuclear distances. Relaxation times have been calculated theoretically using reported crystal structure models, and we have discussed the validity of those models.
