Atomic Force Microscopy Studies of Tabular AgBr Emulsion Grains

H. Nozoye, and H. Takada
[Jpn. J. Appl. Phys., Vol. 33, pp. 3764-3767, 1994]

The (111) faces of photographic tabular emulsion grains (AgBr microcrystals, Fig.1) have been studied by atomic force microscopy (AFM). The oriented single layers of tabular emulsions grains were formed on indium tin oxide (ITO) bases, and atomic images of the surfaces of microcrystals were observed in air as well as in water. Although the atomic images of (111) surfaces of tabular emulsion grains observed in water coincide with the ideal atomic arrangement of the (111) face of an AgBr crystal, those observed in air do not.
