The Study of Detonation Properties of High Explosives Using the Intermolecular Potential Model (IX) -Detonation Properties of Metallic Azides-

Katsumi Tanaka
[Kayaku Gakkaishi, Vol.56, p.148, 1995]

Detonation properties of heavy metal azides are studied to estimate detonation velocities, pressures, energies, etc. by using the revised Kihara-Hikita equation of state. Experimental detonation velocities and energies can be reproduced by assuming gaseous metallic products except for the cadmium azide which has lower detonation velocity and pressure than calculated values. Calculated detonation pressures, however, are considerably higher than experimental observations which indicates that heavy metal azides are non ideal explosives like heavy metal loaded explosives.
