Bubble and Cavity Effects in Positronium Chemistry

Y. Kobayashi
[Mater. Sci. Forum, Vols.175-178, pp.635-642, 1995]

Chemical reactivity of positronium toward electron acceptors in molecular liquids is strongly affected by solvent, pressure and temperature. The sensitivity of the positronium reaction to these parameters is due to the sensitive effect of various parameters on the energy of positronium trapped in the bubble. The positronium bubble also plays an important role in the anomalous magnetic quenching of ortho-positronium in nitrobenzene solutions. Cavity effect of positronium formation as well as the nature of the cavity in polymers is briefly described.
