[Technical Report of IEICE., OME 96-39, pp. 1-5, 1996]

We prepared a uniaxially oriented p-sexiphenylene film and characterized the structure and optical properties of the film. The aligned molecular strands of poly(p-phenylene) (PPP) were prepared on fused silica substrate by friction-transfer technique. Then epitaxially grown p-sexiphenylene (6P) film was deposited by physical vapor deposition to grow epitaxially. By the atomic force microscopic observation, it was found that the 6P needle-like crystal grew in perpendicular to the direction of the PPP strands. The film exhibits anisotropic optical properties.
