We expected the increase of the conversion in the case of catalyst(d) by the direct catalysis of hydrogenation of solid coal. However, there is a little effect on the reaction. Dispersion of Mo metal in the solvent was important to improve catalyst performance in case of using AO solvent. We suppose that contact of Mo metal and solvent is essential in the liquefaction reaction. We suppose by comparing the results of AO and HAO that gas phase hydrogen was transferred to the coal mainly through solvent.
