Uniaxially oriented film of an insoluble conducting polymer, poly(p-phenylene) (PPP) was prepared. At first, the aligned molecular strands of PPP were prepared by friction-transfer technique. Then homoepitaxially grown PPP film was formed on it by the polymerization of benzene. The film exhibits anisotropic optical and electrical properties. When it was doped with SbF5, the oriented film shows the remarkable anisotropic conductivity. The conductivity along the friction-transferred direction as the origin of structure was measured to be thousand times higher than that in the perpendicular direction.
