Synthesis of Model Glycolipids Having Two Long Alkyl Chains

A simple and effective synthetic method is presented for the synthesis of compounds 3 and 6 which can be conducted in Me₂SO without isolation of the intermediate formed in the reaction mixture. Synthesis and purification requires a few days and their large-scale preparation will be possible when necessary. Structures like compounds 6 are expected to form morphologically stable bilayer membranes in aqueous media.
