Raman spectra of linear oligosilanes, Me(SiMe2)nMe (n=8, 10, 12), and poly(dimethylsilane) were investigated. In low wavenumber region of the spectra of oligosilanes, a new band was found and assigned to a longitudinal acoustic mode (LAM). The band shows molecular weight dependence, i.e., in the spectrum of shorter oligosilane, the band appears at higher wavenumber. Estimation of Young's moduli from the frequencies of the bands using uniform rod model resulted in reasonable values. These results suggest that the new Raman bands are LAM-1 modes of the oligosilanes.
