We have examined the possibility of organizing assembled structure of the one-dimensional metal complex, bis(dimethylglyoximato)platinum(II) Pt(dmg)2, which is known to show large third-order nonlinear optical effects. The metal complex, when vacuum evaporated on a KBr substrate, was found to form a one-dimensional metal chain structure with the chain axis oriented perpendicular to the surface. These metal chains were observed to have a uniform, short length and to be arranged with in-plane ordering. The growth process and structure of the metal chains in the evaporated film will be discussed from optoelectronic and structural points of view.
