Catalytic Decomposition of N2O over NaY-Supported and USY-Supported Rh Catalysts

The catalytic decomposition of nitrous oxide to nitrogen and oxygen has been studied over zeolite (NaY, USY) supported rhodium catalysts. Rh/USY catalysts were more active than Rh/NaY catalysts, and the activity of N2O decomposition was increased by the precalcination at 700C of the zeolite support (NaY, USY). The precalcination effect was more significant for Rh/NaY catalysts. The results were discussed in terms of characterization of the catalysts using H2 and CO chemisorption and 29Si and 27Al NMR, as partly shown in Fig. 1.
