Recently there has been a growing interest in organic magnetic materials. Of many candidates of the magnets, carbon compounds will be the most promising from practical point of view, because the carbons exhibit a spontaneous magnetization at room temperature and cheap to make, chemically and physically stable, and easy to process. This report describes, first, briefly organic molecular-based magnetic materials such as organic radicals and metal complexes and, second, refers to carbon-base synthetic methods, postulated structure, and magnetic properties. And, third, iron-containing carbon magnets, which could be applicable as magnetic fluid, are outlined.
