Synthesis of Alkylbenzenes and Determination of their Retention Indices

431 alkylbenzenes from C10 to CI7 carbon numbers were synthesized by alkylation of commercial alkylbenzenes on an aluminium chloride catalyst. Retention indices and mass spectra were measured for 65 commercial alkylbenzenes and addltional 431 synthesized compounds.
1-Ethy1-2, 6-dimethylbenzene is the only compound with carbon number of l0 which is not available as commercial reagent and was synthesized by ethylation of m-xylene.
C11-alkylbenzenes consist of 51 isomers. 11 compounds of them are available as commercial reagents, and 36 compounds except commercial reagents were synthesized.
C12-alkylbenzenes consist of 136 isomers. 8 compounds are available as commercial reagents, and 111 compounds except commercial reagents were synthesized.
